Donegal County Council has announced that maintenance works on the Inch Island causeway are scheduled for early February 2026.
The works will involve repairs to sections of the road surface and drainage improvements. The causeway, which provides the only road access between Inch Island and the mainland at Burt, is a critical piece of infrastructure for island residents.
What to Expect
According to the council notice:
- Works are scheduled to begin on Monday, 3rd February
- The project is expected to take approximately two weeks
- Traffic management will be in place with temporary traffic lights
- Access will be maintained throughout, though delays of up to 15 minutes may occur during peak work periods
Essential Route
The causeway is the sole road link connecting Inch Island to the mainland. The council has confirmed that emergency vehicle access will be prioritised at all times during the works.
Residents are advised to allow extra time for journeys during the maintenance period. Updates will be posted on the council website and local community noticeboards.
